Welcoming address by the President.

On behalf of the Committee and myself, we would like to welcome and thank you all for your attendance today to our 8th AGM.

We have had yet another successful year with many varied events organised by our Committee for the enjoyment of our members and guests. Over 95% of our events were fully booked which clearly shows that we are more popular now than at any other time.

Membership numbers are continuing to increase and we are attracting members from all around the Algorfa area.

Last year we started off our events with our ever popular “Annual Car Rally” which attracted 20 cars participating and 83 people enjoying the ride out and a hot buffet on our return. This years Car Rally was even more popular with a maximum number having to be set. We had 28 cars on the rally and 111 participants who were fed a two course Sunday Roast dinner on our return to the Tavern.

A mystery tour in March 2016 was a sell out and this years Mystery Tour sold out even quicker and we have had to order a bigger coach to accommodate 59 members who wished to go on the trip. The trip is planned for next week and will include several stops to varied venues and will also include a picnic, complete with wine, beer and soft drinks.

During April 2016 we had yet another sell out trip, we travelled to Murcia to witness the Burying of the Sardine festival. This year in March we tried something completely different and organised a day trip to Lorca where we had free time during the morning and a very interesting and enjoyable visit to an equestrian centre. With over 450 horses at the stables there was plenty to see. We were also treated to a magnificent equestrian show.

During April this year the Association had it’s midweek break trip. Again we were fully booked for our wonderful value for money 4 day break to Jerez, Seville, Cadiz and Antequera. Staying in the centre of Jerez, at the 4 star “Sherry Park Hotel” half board.  A wonderful break for us all. And great value for money at just €209 each.

Our next event will be in June and we will be taking members and guests to Alicante to Witness the Haugares Festival and bonfires. This trip is an evening outing where you will be able to enjoy the wonderful party atmosphere and see the fantastic paper mache effigies which are situated all over the city. These are later set alight much to the amazement of those around. If you havn’t seen this before, it is to be recommended. Cost of trip is €10 each

During July 2017 we will again be hosting our second “The Taverns Got Talent Night”, Hosted by Radio DJ Richy Sparks. The event will be our first to be held  in the Tavern garden where we will be able to accommodate a larger audience. We plan to advertise in the local press for local Talent to perform and will be competing for a first prize of €200. Tickets are now on sale and are great value at just €7 each which will include a meal of chicken and chips, curry or fish and chips.

In August we will again be organising another event in the Beer Garden, this time we will be entertained by the very talented Debbie H. A barbeque meal will be included.

On September 9th we will stage our star event featuring Benidorm Palace favourite “Carla Stone” who will be bringing her cast of dancers who will join her in her Caberet Act “Bett Middler meets Burlesque”. Carla is one of the Biggest entertainers in the whole of the Costa’s and she regularly appears at the Benidorm Palace. This will be the biggest night of the year at the Tavern and will include a two course meal. Price just €8 each. Tickets are already selling fast for this great evening.

During the month of October we move inside again for a Murder Mystery evening.

November we will again entertain indoors with a fun evening which will include a Mr and Mrs quiz.  Live entertainment will also be provided to make the evening go with a swing.

December we will again have a free Christmas Party for Members and Guests. We will be starting the evening with Carol Singing and Party Games, then we will have Live entertainment provided by the very popular duo ‘BELLA LUNA’. A free buffet will be served. There will be a grand Christmas Raffle and several spot prizes.

As you have just heard we have planned something for each month for our members and community to enjoy and at the same time profits from these events will go to our chosen charities.  This past year we have already donated a €1000 to the ALPE Special needs School,  the Torrevieja Alzheimer’s  Association have received 2 donations of €500 and we have also donated €1700 to take 35 children from 4 local care homes for a fun filled day out to Terra Mitica including lunch during the day. We also donated €300 to Lloyd Rathbone to help with the medical and dental charges he faced after falling down steps.  Also the Association payed for the free Christmas Party in December , all totalling the magnificient sum of over €4500.

I have asked David if he would be willing to hire in a Marque over the Christmas Period complete with heaters, thus allowing larger audiences over this busy period, and I have suggested that if the price is right then we would propose that those wishing to use it pay a proportion of the hire charges. This is a suggestion at present and will depend much on the Total hire price. I will keep members informed of these discussions.

You can be justifiably proud of your Association and I would like to thank all the Committee and of course our members for their continual support and hard work.

Agenda Item 2

Presentation of accounts for the period May 2016 to May 2017

Our Treasurer, Mr Syd Kingston will now present the accounts and on completion members will be given the opportunity to ask questions. The full accounts are available for members to inspect at the end of the meeting. Further to this we have approached Yvette Cooper , who in the past was employed as a banker to inspect our accounts along with a volunteer member to assist her. They will be given the opportunity to fully audit the accounts of the Association.
I would like to thank our Treasurer for his dedication and splendid work that he performs on our behalf.
ANY QUESTIONS regarding the accounts.
